AEW Reportedly Finalizing Deal to Bring Pay-Per-Views to HBO Max

A new report suggests that a significant change is coming to the way fans watch All Elite Wrestling’s major events. According to wrestling journalist Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast, an official announcement regarding AEW pay-per-views (PPVs) moving to the HBO Max streaming platform is expected in the coming weeks.
Zarian, who has a track record of breaking industry news, stated on Thursday, “Hearing that there will be an announcement regarding AEW PPVs on HBO Max in the coming weeks.”
The potential move is widely seen as a logical next step for the promotion. Both AEW and HBO Max are owned by the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery. Currently, AEW’s weekly shows, Dynamite and Collision, are already simulcast on the streaming platform in addition to their broadcasts on TBS and TNT, strengthening the existing synergy.
As it stands, fans in the United States purchase AEW’s pay-per-view events through traditional cable and satellite providers or via streaming services like Amazon Prime. A key challenge in a potential HBO Max deal would be structuring a business model that compensates for the loss of revenue from individual PPV buys. This contrasts with WWE’s model of selling exclusive rights to its events to platforms like Peacock and, soon, ESPN.
With AEW’s next major event, All Out, scheduled for September 20, the timing of the potential announcement is critical. If the news is confirmed in the “coming weeks” as the report suggests, All Out could become the first pay-per-view in AEW history to stream live on HBO Max.
