Ricky Saints Becomes the New Number One Contender for the NXT Title

Ricky Saints is the new number one contender for the NXT Championship. He will challenge the champion, Oba Femi, at the NXT No Mercy event on Saturday, September 27.

Saints earned his title shot by defeating Josh Briggs in the main event of the August 26 episode of “NXT.” The match was made at the beginning of the show by General Manager Ava after Saints called out Femi, but was interrupted by Briggs. Ava’s justification for the match was that Femi’s opponent from Sunday’s Heatwave event, Je’Von Evans, had not been heard from since his controversial loss.

During the match, Saints secured the victory over Briggs by pinning him after a tornado DDT.

After the match, a confrontation between Saints and Femi was interrupted by the new NXT Tag Team Champions, Darkstate. Saints and Femi briefly set aside their differences and, with the help of former champions Hank & Tank, fought off the new faction in a brawl.
