Professional Wrestler Jonathan ‘Jaka’ Echevarria Dies at 39

The professional wrestling community is in mourning following the tragic death of Jonathan Echevarria, known to fans by his ring name, Jaka. Echevarria passed away at the age of 39 after suffering a fatal heart attack.

His passing came just over a week after his final in-ring appearance on August 31 at a Boca Raton Pro Wrestling event in Florida.

Echevarria was best known for his time in the EVOLVE promotion, particularly during the period when it was affiliated with WWE. Tributes from his peers and fans have begun to pour in from around the world.

AEW star Angel Ortiz shared a highlight video on Instagram with the caption, “I love you, tio,” while TNA standout Mike Santana expressed his grief on his Instagram story, writing simply, “Gutted.”

Fans on X also shared their condolences, with one remembering him as “one of the funniest people you could ever have the pleasure of being around.”

Echevarria’s long-time EVOLVE tag team partner, Chris Dickinson, had posted a touching tribute to his friend following the initial heart attack but has not yet publicly commented on his passing.
