Mixed Tag Team Showdown Official for Wrestlepalooza: AJ Lee & CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch

It’s official: the highly anticipated mixed tag team showdown is set for Wrestlepalooza. On the September 8 episode of Monday Night Raw, it was confirmed that the newly-returned AJ Lee will team with her husband, CM Punk, to take on the formidable duo of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch.

The match was made following a tense in-ring segment initiated by AJ Lee, who made her first Raw appearance in over a decade. Carrying the Women’s IC title she stole from Becky Lynch on SmackDown last Friday, Lee explained her return to the WWE Universe. She spoke about her retirement ten years ago, her subsequent mental health journey, and even led the crowd in a “therapy!” chant.

However, she made it clear her motivation for returning was personal, stating that while she was fine watching her husband compete against others, she took issue with Becky Lynch putting her hands on him.

An irate Lynch interrupted and demanded the return of her championship. Lee used the title as a bargaining chip, offering to give it back only if Lynch and Rollins agreed to the mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza. Rollins initially refused, telling Lee that she didn’t get to “call the shots.”

The stalemate was broken when CM Punk appeared, sneaking up on the couple and attempting to hit Rollins with a GTS. After narrowly avoiding the move, a fired-up Rollins accepted the challenge on behalf of himself and his wife.

With the match agreed upon, Lee tossed the championship belt from the ring to Lynch on the entrance ramp, officially setting the stage for one of the most personal and star-studded matches on the Wrestlepalooza card.
