WWE Survivor Series in San Diego: City Invests Big in November Spectacle

San Diego is preparing to welcome one of WWE’s most anticipated events of the year, and the financial stakes are higher than ever. According to newly obtained public records, the cost of hosting the Survivor Series this November could reach as much as five million dollars, making it one of the most expensive WWE events in recent memory.
Documents acquired by Wrestlenomics reveal that the city’s Tourism Marketing District has already committed six hundred fifty thousand dollars in site fees. This funding was approved to help secure the event and boost San Diego’s position as a hub for large-scale entertainment. But that’s just the beginning. The San Diego Padres, whose Petco Park will host the event, submitted a separate budget of over four million dollars to cover operational and production costs. Altogether, the projected budget for bringing Survivor Series to the city approaches five million dollars.
What remains unclear is exactly how much WWE will pocket from the total sum. Still, the scale of the investment places the Survivor Series on par with other major WWE spectacles like WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas and the upcoming SummerSlam in New Jersey. This level of financial commitment is rarely seen outside the wrestling giant’s most iconic shows, underscoring just how much the company values this November’s premium live event.
Beyond WWE’s financial gain, the city of San Diego is betting big on economic return. Forecasts from the Tourism Marketing District estimate that the event will result in around eighteen thousand hotel room nights, generating approximately 3.6 million dollars in lodging revenue alone. That figure doesn’t include restaurant traffic, transportation services, and local attractions, all of which are expected to benefit from the influx of wrestling fans pouring into the city.
The weekend may also feature additional WWE programming. While not yet confirmed, industry insiders suggest that Friday Night SmackDown and possibly Monday Night Raw could also be held in San Diego around the same time. If true, this would bring even more national attention and tourism to the area, further expanding the event’s local economic footprint.
The Survivor Series will take place at Petco Park on Saturday, November 29. This will mark a rare instance of the event being held in an outdoor stadium, providing fans with a unique atmosphere in a venue more commonly associated with Major League Baseball. The timing is notable too, as the event has recently featured the WarGames match format, a chaotic multi-superstar showdown that has reinvigorated the Survivor Series brand in recent years.
With millions of dollars in play and a high-stakes match lineup expected, this year’s Survivor Series is shaping up to be more than just a wrestling show. It’s a business deal, a tourism strategy, and a full-scale entertainment investment. San Diego is not simply hosting an event — it is seizing an opportunity to turn the squared circle into an economic powerhouse.
